Laps for Life Success - Over $2,000 Raised!

Thanks to Beck, Simone, and Jess – and all their sponsors – the Toodyay Torpedoes raised over $2,000 for Youth Mental Health!

Back in March, the Toodyay Torpedoes took on the Laps for Life challenge for the second time, with the aim to raise funds to support young people in Australia living with mental health difficulties.

According to the Laps for Life team, 1 in 4 people aged 14-25 live with mental health difficulties; most of whom, don’t seek any help. And sadly, as a result, suicide remains the leading cause of death in young people in Australia, and every day more than one young person takes their own life.

The Laps for Life swimming challenge – run in support of the mental health service ReachOut – is in place to help promote youth mental health awareness and raise funds to support those affected; with the objective of reducing suicide rates in our country. It’s a challenge that is open to people Australia wide, and remains a yearly cause we can all get involved in.

We’re proud to announce that Beck, Simone, and Jess represented the Toodyay Torpedoes, and dove in to support this awesome cause. As a result of their efforts, our very small team raised over $2,000 to help fight the issues surrounding youth mental health.

Toodyay Rec Centre Venue Manager, Beck Foulkes-Taylor wanted to make sure it was broadcast just how grateful the team were to all those who contributed their time, and to thank all those who kindly donated to the teams’ funds. Every dollar counts when it comes to supporting causes such as this, and we’re proud to have raised the amount that we did!

Hopefully next year, we can build upon this success and get more swimmers and sponsors to take part! If you’d like to learn more about Laps for Life and Suicide Prevention in Australia, please go here: https://www.suicidepreventionaust.org/event/laps-for-life/
